Bug Be Gone is an effective therapeutic blend that excels in keeping all the biting insects at bay. We carry two blends with different main ingredients – Catnip and Geranium. Can’t decide which one to buy? We’ve outlined just a few of the ingredients in each blend to help you understand how they work to simultaneously keep bugs away while caring for your skin.
The main ingredient in this blend is Catnip, which is known for its ability to repel all sorts of biting bugs like mosquitoes. The active compound Nepetalactone gives the oil this power. It’s so potent that it’s best used in small concentrations with other insect repelling oils, like the Citronella, Atlas Cedarwood, Sage, Rosemary, and Bulgarian Lavender that are included in this blend.
Citronella is widely known for being used in candles to repel bugs. Our Citronella oil is higher in citronellal and citronellol than other varieties, making it a proven effective oil in repelling mosquitoes, lice, fleas and ticks.
Sage is historically known by the ancient Romans as the “sacred herb” because of its powerful medicinal qualities – it also happens to be efficient at neutralizing insects. It is necessary that this potent oil be used in small amounts, so it is a great oil to include in your therapeutic blends.
Our Wild Rosemary has a high 1,8-cineole content, making its fragrance potent and fresh. This type of Rosemary also has a lower ketone content, so it is guaranteed to not irritate the skin. It’s been historically used to draw moths away from clothes.
Lavender is a great addition to any skin care blend because of how gentle and soothing, yet effective it is. It will bring balance to the skin and help to soothe irritation caused by bug bites.
Geranium as the main ingredient in this blend, along with different oils for repelling pesky bugs. Geranium has been found in a study to be more effective at killing mites than DEET. Geraniol and beta-citronellol are the compounds responsible for this power. This blend also contains Eucalyptus Citriodora, Pine Needle, Clary Sage, Rosemary, and Lavender.
This lemon-scented Eucalyptus oil is high in citronellal, which makes it effective at repelling mosquitoes, silverfish, ticks and cockroaches. It has been recommended as a safe and effective natural pesticide.
Pine Needle is an effective insect and parasite repellent and neutralizer. It also happens to have a pleasant, fresh scent that will transport you to a pine forest. The addition of Pine acts as a great supporting oil in this blend.
Clary Sage is another herb considered by ancient Romans to be sacred because of its importance in aromatherapy and medical care. It is an adaptogenic herb, meaning it knows how to bring balance to each individual who uses it. It’s presence in this blend brings balance as well as skin soothing qualities.
These two blends share some of the same ingredients, but the main compounds of the base essential oils are different. Catnip is more potent and needs to be used in smaller amounts, while geranium is a more balanced oil that is more soothing for the skin. Choose the blend that you feel would be better suited for your skin’s needs!
