Cedarwood (Virginian) Special Aged Essential Oil – Wild

  • Distillation Method: Steam
  • Country of Origin: United States
  • Plant Part: Heartwood
  • Latin Name: Juniperus virginiana
  • Cultivation: Wild Grown

About the Oil:  Virginian Cedarwood is not a “true” cedarwood, in the sense that it is from trees of the Juniper family and has a different chemistry than Himalayan or Atlantic Cedarwood. However, it does have similar therapeutic properties and has that wonderful aroma of a cedar chest.

In addition to the exceptional fragrance, cedarwood essential oil has wide range of benefits and uses. Our special aged variety has a more well rounded aroma that is grounding and captures the mild sweetness of the wood.

Product Description

About The Plant

Juniperus virginiana is a species of juniper native to eastern North America from southeastern Canada to the Gulf of Mexico and east of the Great Plains.

About The Oil

Cedarwood is one of the most popular essential oils in aromatherapy, loved for it's deep, rich woody aroma. Interestingly, Virginian Cedarwood is actually from trees of the same family as Juniper, yet they have a distinct Cedar aroma. The oil is a deep reddish orange in color, with a rich and full-bodied aroma. Although very similar, Virginian Cedarwood is a little higher-noted than the Texas Cedarwood variety.

Of Interest

In New Mexico the Native Americans use cedarwood oil for skin rashes.

Aromatherapy Details

Our Virginian Cedarwood is deep and full-bodied, but if you are looking for a smoother Cedarwood this is the aged oil for you.

The aromatic profile of this oil is smoother and has grown in some therapeutic components with age. The process is non-invasive and is completely physical. This technique ensures that the oil stays pure, but continues to grow into a fuller, more well-rounded aroma.

This oil is great for blending, because it is completely unique; for accurately measuring oils, see our Drops per mL page.

Although the therapeutic applications of Virginian Cedarwood esential oil are similar to those of Himalayan Cedarwood and Atlantic Cedarwood, both the Himalayan and Atlantic species are much safer to use. However, when the aroma is of primary importance, you can choose whichever you prefer.

Generally non-toxic, non-sensitizing and non-irritant. Always test a small amount first for sensitivity or allergic reaction.

Not to be used during pregnancy.
