Properties

Product Description

About The Plant

Lemon myrtle is a rare evergreen tree restricted to Southern Queensland, with glassy, green, aromatic leaves that grows to a height of 15 meters. The species name citriodora 'lemon-scented', is a neo-Latin formation of 'citrus' and 'odor'.

About The Oil

The oil is one of the purest natural sources of citral (either a pair or mixture of terpenoids) that accounts for the potent, bright lemony aroma. While you'll find similar notes in Lemon Tea Tree, Lemongrass and Lemon Verbena, Lemon Myrtle may have the freshest, cleanest scent of them all.

Of Interest

Lemon myrtle was traditionally used as a source of citral-rich essential oil for lemon flavoring and fragrance. However, it has been supplanted by more economical sources such as May Chang and Lemongrass.

Application

INHALATION

Direct inhalation, diffuser, oil vaporizer
With these properties of an incredibly fresh, clean scent, and potent antimicrobial action, the essential oil is well suited to diffuser use. It has been anecdotally reported that Lemon Myrtle essential oil alone can be potent enough alone to support the IMMUNE SYSTEM through the cold and flu season.

TOPICAL

The oil can be an excellent for acne, but should be applied sparingly. For example, put a drop on the end of a cotton swab, then use that to dab on to pimples individually. Do not apply on unblemished skin.

INGESTION

The essential oil is also used as a lemon flavoring agent. It can safely be added to any dish where a touch of lemon flavor is desired. Like cooking with any essential oil, use less than you think necessary!

Aromatherapy Details

Lemon myrtle oil has an intensely fresh lemon-like odor with a sweet undertone.

You can synergize the oil with other potent immune-system boosting essential oils such as Bay Laurel, Eucalyptus, Thyme or Pine. Aromatically, Lemon Myrtle blends nicely with herbaceous oils, evergreen needle oils and cold-pressed citrus oils. The aroma can have a brightening, uplifting effect on the mind and emotions.

Safety

Always test a small amount first for sensitivity or allergic reaction. If pregnant consult with a physician prior to use.

While noted as non-toxic, the citral level indicates there may be potential for skin sensitization, dermal irritation and photosensitivity. Meaning: don't apply in large amounts to your skin.
